Blue-Cloud D3.5. Pilot Demonstrators Principal Results, Achievements & Actionable Items for the Future Report

Blue-Cloud has achieved significant results since the start of the project in October 2019. Blue-Cloud working environments have been used by more than 1,300 users in total spread across 20 countries. 15 services released by Blue-Cloud are now available in the EOSC marketplace and 12 of them have been developed in the framework of 5 Pilot scientific demonstrators and are at the core of this deliverable. Up to mid of September 2022, more than 25,700 working sessions have been executed, with an average of 1,286 working sessions per month and an average of 55 working analytics sessions executed every month by the users of the VLabs.

This document describes in details the 5 pilot demonstrators and the 12 services developed during the Blue Cloud project as part of the Blue-Cloud thematic Virtual Labs. For each service, the main scientific and technical outputs are highlighted. All together these services showcase the great potential and opportunities offered by cloud and Virtual Research Environment (VRE) technologies when combined with open science. These services and the Blue Cloud framework, consisting of a Blue-Cloud Data Discovery & Access Service and a well-equipped Blue-Cloud Virtual Research Environment, are prototypes and forerunners of enhanced and future services using state-of-the art IT technology (cloud, VRE, data and services federation, big data). Increasingly, these are becoming strategic for the future of operational marine services and the digital twin of the ocean.
