Science Europe’s 40 members rally behind EOSC Partnership in FP10

7 April 2026

Science Europe, the association representing 40 leading research funding and performing organisations across 30 European countries, has issued a strong position statement in support of the continuation of EOSC as a European Partnership under FP10, the EU's next research and innovation framework programme.

Released on 31 March 2026, the statement calls for a clear and robust framework under FP10 to secure the long-term future of EOSC, emphasising the need for early decisions on governance and sustainable funding to prevent fragmentation and maintain trust across the research community.

Science Europe's members are among the largest public research funders in Europe, collectively investing more than €25 billion in research annually, making their unified endorsement a powerful signal to EU policymakers as FP10 negotiations intensify.

The position statement underscores the strategic importance of EOSC beyond its technical function. EOSC is described as a strategic instrument for strengthening the European Research Area, supporting the free circulation of knowledge, and reinforcing Europe's position in an increasingly data-driven and competitive global landscape. The statement also highlights that EOSC demonstrates how openness and data sovereignty can be mutually reinforcing, particularly in the context of the growing use of artificial intelligence in research.

Science Europe supports the continuation of EOSC as a Work Programme-based European Partnership, a model that would combine stability with flexibility, while preserving its tripartite governance involving the European Commission, participating countries, and the research community through the EOSC Association.

The EOSC Association has warmly welcomed this statement, noting that it provides important backing for its ongoing advocacy efforts to secure EOSC's place in FP10, and that it adds significant political and institutional weight to the case for a continued European Partnership for EOSC.
