Greek news website Patris dedicates a detailed article to the role of FORTHÂ in the Blue-Cloud project.
News about our partners' contributions to the Blue-Cloud project have started circulating outside of the trade press as well, and we have a fresh example in the article about the role of Greece's FORTH (Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas) in this exciting three-year journey around the ocean.
The article begins by reporting that the Information Systems Laboratory at the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH (ISL at ICS-FORTH) took part in this effort centred on the capture fishing and fisheries management, aimed at protecting the environment and consumers. The scientific supervisor is Professor Yannis Tzitzikas.
Following a thorough description of the European Open Science Cloud, as well as of the scope of our thematic project, the piece goes on to introduce the specific contributions of FORTH's institutes. "ICS-FORTH is one of the partners involved in the Blue-Cloud project." the reporter continues, "Specifically, the Information Systems Laboratory is involved in the project as a technical partner, having an active role in implementing the "Fish, a matter of scales" demonstrator, one of the five Blue-Cloud pilot applications."
This demonstrator aims at creating services that will help improve the management and analysis of fisheries data. This will be achieved by extending two existing services, specifically an interactive atlas of species-specific catches, and a global fish stock and catch register. This extension will be attained through their semantic enrichment with more information from other data sources, allowing for a more efficient analysis of the relevant data and indicators.
