International Data Week 2025
The next edition of International Data Week (IDW 2025) will take place in the vibrant city of Brisbane, Australia, from 13 to 16 October 2025.
Held biennially, IDW is the leading international conference on research data. It is jointly organised by the International Science Council’s Committee on Data (CODATA) and World Data System (WDS), together with the Research Data Alliance (RDA). The event brings together the RDA Plenary Meeting — the biannual gathering of this global membership organisation focused on building and supporting data-sharing and reuse infrastructure — with SciDataCon, the scientific conference exploring the frontiers of data in research, organised by CODATA and WDS.
Hosted for the first time in Australia by the Australian Research Data Commons, IDW 2025 will focus on the theme ‘Data for Positive Change’, underscoring the vital role of data in driving progress, empowering communities, and advancing scientific research.

Blue-Cloud at the event
At International Data Week 2025 in Brisbane, our partner Chiara Altobelli (OGS) presented on the “Marine Knowledge Value Chain”, highlighting how EMODnet Chemistry collects and harmonises marine data on pollutants, marine litter, ocean acidification, and eutrophication. She explained how EMODnet’s value chain transforms raw data from hundreds of providers into FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) datasets for researchers, authorities, and companies.
Chiara also showcased how Blue-Cloud 2026 builds on this rich dataset, combining it with data from the Copernicus Marine Service and the World Ocean Database to create customisable, validated datasets focused on key ocean variables. These tools help assess data consistency, support research on eutrophication, and provide a foundation for the next generation of marine research and environmental monitoring.
