Advancing Open Science: Interoperable Data Access and Cloud-Based Workflows

Training Academy event
28 August 2025 10:00–11:30
Online

The FAIR-EASE and Blue-Cloud 2026 projects are joining forces for a training webinar exploring cutting-edge solutions in data discovery, access, and usability.

Participants will gain insights into how emerging data standards like Data Catalogue Vocabulary (DCAT) from FAIR-EASE and the Blue-Cloud 2026 Data Discovery and Access Service (DD&AS) facilitate structured and efficient data discovery.

Moving on to data access, the webinar will provide a deep dive into how modern standards and frameworks enhance interoperability, ensuring seamless data access and processing across scientific domains. FAIR-EASE will provide an overview of Analysis-Ready Cloud-Optimized (ARCO), Spatial-Temporal Asset Catalog (STAC), OpenEO, FAIR-EASE Uniform Data Access Layer (UDAL) services and how these have been combined with the potentialities of the Blue-Cloud 2026 BEACON software system for high performance data access.

After discovery and accessing the data, it's time to perform data analysis of this same data to extract insights for new knowledge and marine science discoveries. The Galaxy service from FAIR-EASE is a widely used platform for scientific workflows. Thanks to the possibility to integrate interactive and non-interactive tools, Galaxy can be inserted into D4Science from Blue-Cloud 2026, as one of Virtual Labs (Vlabs) within the Blue-Cloud 2026 Computing Platform (CCP) and D4Science catalogue of services and benefit from cross-topic research in marine science.

Thanks to the combination of different tools and software, including the CCP, a scalable and federated cloud computing platform that supports container based methods importing and method executions, the webinar attendees will discover how these advancements are driving open science, fostering reproducibility, and enhancing data-driven research capabilities across diverse disciplines with earth science.

The event will be closed with a presentation of the joint use-case between Blue-Cloud 2026 and FAIR-EASE, entitled "Coastal Water Dynamics Pilot", to showcase how these tools are facilitating seamless access to multiple datasets (rivers, satellite, water column, models) and providing new ways of dataset connections and correlations.
