The Ocean Race Grand Finale - Ocean Data Week

This edition of the Race sees its mostĀ ambitious science programme to date.Ā During the 32,000 mile long race, 4.3 million measurements of essential ocean parameters will be taken and more than 400 samples of marine litter will be collected. Boats will capture, for the first time, levels of oxygen and trace elements in the water and data will also be delivered to science partners faster in this edition, transmitted via satellite and reaching the organisations in real time. The Ocean Race is contributing scientific data to theĀ Ocean Decade Odyssey projectĀ which is an endorsed project of theĀ UN Decade of Ocean Science (2021-2030).
Blue-Cloud at the event
Blue-Cloud 2026 representatives joined theĀ Ocean Data Week, co-located with the Ocean Race Grand Finale in Genova, Italy on 27-30 June 2023. Blue-Cloud 2026 Technical Coordinator Dick Schaap, MARIS, presented the project on 30 June as part of the session "Low cost / cost effective technologies for ocean data monitoring and participatory actions".
