TOPIC 4 Communicating "Blue science"

‘Communicating Blue Science’ will explore what disciplinary, contextual, and logistical thresholds currently pose the greatest challenges and opportunities for meaningful knowledge dissemination and ingestion. This round table will identify what gaps exist in our conceptual map of ‘blue’ communication: for geographies (i.e. what content is under- or over-communicated?), conversations (who is being left out of what discussions?), networks and platforms (what technologies are being underutilized or underdeveloped?), and will ask who is dynamically mapping these systems to improve communication. We will follow this systems gap analysis with a discussion of best practices concerning how communication is encoded, transmitted across effective channels through varying contexts, and then received (decoded) by citizens. Given the above, we will conclude with recommendations on actionable short and long-term goals for communicating blue science to citizens.
