Bridge-BS

Mission

BRIDGE-BS is a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering sustainable blue growth in the Black Sea region through three interconnected nodes:

  • NODE1: Ecosystem Service Dynamics - Developing a deep understanding of ecosystem functioning to enable adaptive management practices.
  • NODE2: Blue Growth Incubators - Providing a platform to translate scientific innovations into viable business opportunities, driving economic growth in the ocean economy.
  • NODE3: Empowered Citizens - Cultivating a knowledgeable and cohesive Black Sea community, inclusive of scientists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and society at large.

By facilitating collaboration among stakeholders and fostering knowledge exchange, BRIDGE-BS aims to pave the way for a sustainable blue economy in the Black Sea region by:

  • Building an informed and empowered Black Sea community;
  • Fostering collaboration between scientists, policymakers, and entrepreneurs;
  • Ensuring sustainability and prepare for future marine environmental challenges.

Collaboration with Blue-Cloud

To make new marine data related to the Black Sea region available for discovery and access, BRIDGE-BS has adopted the SeaDataNet Common Data Index (CDI) service. By doing so, BRIDGE-BS ensures that these new datasets seamlessly integrate into existing data repositories such as EMODnet and the Blue-Cloud Data Discovery and Access Service (DD&AS).

Furthermore, BRIDGE-BS has taken a proactive step by adapting the CDI service to provide a dedicated Black Sea User Interface. This interface, now accessible through the BRIDGE-BS website, streamlines the process of accessing marine data specific to the Black Sea region, enhancing usability and accessibility for stakeholders.

In addition to these advancements, BRIDGE-BS is actively exploring Virtual Research Environment (VRE) developments, with plans for further integration and expansion in the future. These initiatives underscore BRIDGE-BS's commitment to promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in the Black Sea region's marine ecosystem.
