The paper "On the Evolution of Semantic Warehouses: The Case of Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries" was presented last week at the 14th International Conference on Metadata and Semantics Research (MTSR 2020) and was awarded as one of the best two papers.
It was produced by Yannis Marketakis, Yannis Tzitzikas, Aureliano Gentile, Bracken van Niekerk, and Marc Taconet, involved in the Blue-Cloud demonstrator "Fish, a matter of scales", and it describes the workflow that is adopted for periodically refreshing the Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries (GRSF) with relevant and new data and information, while preserving all the GRSF Administrators’ related updates.
The GRSF is a pivotal instrument of global fish stock status monitoring and traceability, and its enhancement and expansion are key elements of the Blue-Cloud demonstrator, which aims to make it the first global record with uniquely identified stocks and fisheries by consolidating and federating existing content from various sources. Marketakis and Tzitzikas recently also offered a brilliant overview of the fisheries demonstrator in the ERCIM News special issue on Blue Growth.
Discover the "Fish, a matter of scales" Blue-Cloud demonstrator through our dedicated webinar, featuring experts from FAO, ICS-FORTH, and IRD.
MTSR is an annual international inter-disciplinary conference, bringing together academics, researchers and practitioners in metadata, ontologies and semantics research. This year the conference provided an opportunity for the Blue-Cloud team to share knowledge and their innovative approach in the implementation of semantic technologies across a range of information environments and applications.
The proceedings of the paper will be published in the CCIS book series.
