Blue-Cloud 2026 has been selected among 121 other organisations to take part in the initial discussions for the development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Federation. This initiative, led by the EOSC Tripartite Governance—which includes the EOSC Association, the European Commission, and Member States and Associated Countries—is focused on establishing an operational network of federated nodes by 2025.
As part of the process, Blue-Cloud 2026 will participate in a meeting with EOSC Tripartite Governance representatives on 5 December 2024. The meeting will address the objectives of the initiative, coordination opportunities among participants, and the resource contributions required from each organisation to support this collaborative effort.
What’s the EOSC EU Node?
The EOSC EU Node is a platform designed to enable multidisciplinary and multinational research by facilitating the use of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data and supplementary services across Europe and beyond. It provides researchers with tools and support to manage research workflows and outputs, both individually and in collaboration with others, within the EOSC ecosystem.
The EOSC EU Node supports the development of the EOSC Federation, following a “system of systems” approach for federated research infrastructures. It also establishes technical and administrative models as well as frameworks for interoperability, paving the way for ot in her potential nodes to join. Recognised as the first operational platform promoted by the European Commission, the EOSC EU Node exemplifies this concept in practice.
Blue-Cloud 2026’s involvement in the EOSC Federation reflects the project’s commitment to Open Science and FAIR data principles. With the possibility of contributing with its expertise, Blue-Cloud can support the development of a more integrated and interoperable European research infrastructure, enhancing opportunities for collaboration and contributing to advancing the aims of the EOSC initiative.
