The FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2022 will focus on highlighting the centrality of science, technology and innovation for agrifood systems transformation. The event will encourage a diversity of perspectives based on science, thereby facilitating rationalization and inclusiveness of debate.

The FAO Science and Innovation Forum will be organised together with the World Food Forum (WFF) and the FAO Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum from 17 to 21 October 2022

Blue-Cloud side events on Fisheries and Aquaculture

In the lead-up to the FAO Science and Innovation Forum, the side-events on October 12-14 offer an opportunity for Members and partners to present their insights on science, technologies and innovations that can drive food systems transformation.

These independently organised side events will serve a key complementary role to the FAO Science and Innovation Forum and provide a great opportunity for Members and other actors to share additional ideas and accelerate commitments to action. The Blue-Cloud team is taking part in two side events on 12 and 13 October, introducing Virtual Labs dedicated to fisheries and aquaculture.

12 October 2022, 09:00-10:30 CEST - Fisheries Atlas: a flexible Spatial Data Infrastructure

A demonstration of the innovative fisheries atlas approach that can be customised to meet local and regional needs for fisheries related data management and traceability purposes. The atlas is built on a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) to manage data ‘from fishnet to internet’. Supported by H2020 Blue-Cloud, the Atlas innovates collaborative geospatial data management. We will provide examples from the FAO FIRMS Global Tuna Atlas (GTA) and the Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries (GRSF), and Open Science approaches that show the flexibility of an e-Infrastructure.

13 October 2022, 11:00-12:00 CEST - Marine and coastal aquaculture detection and monitoring using free satellite data

A demonstration of innovative aquaculture cage and pond detection based on satellite data analysis and AI. The H2020 Blue-Cloud project combined innovations in satellite data analysis and spatial data management in a scalable and powerful e-infrastructure that makes IT accessible also for resource poor organisations.
