Digital Ocean Forum 2025
The Digital Ocean Forum 2025 is an event to share the advances of the European Digital Twin Ocean platform and further co-design it. Following the UNOC3 success of the European Digital Ocean Pavilion that welcomed over 27,800 visitors, this fourth edition is an opportunity to go back to work and further discuss how to achieve together a fully deployed Digital Twin Ocean platform. This event will bring together many EU Horizon Europe project leaders, experts and stakeholders in the co-design and co-creation of the European Digital Twin Ocean in the frame of the EDITO project.
A high-level public event will open the scene with interventions from several European Commission’s Directorate-General (DG RTD, DG DEFIS, DG MARE, DG INTPA, DG ENV) showcasing how the EU Digital Ocean platform contributes to the implementation of the EU Ocean Pact, the Global Gateway and the UN Decade of Science for Sustainable Development. It will be followed by a technical workshop, to further engage EU Horizon Europe projects and onboard their innovative assets on the platform. The event is also an opportunity to gather feedback and requirements for future developments with a strong user-centric approach.
The Digital Ocean Forum 2025 is organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), Directorate-General the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) and the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), with Mercator Ocean International, Flanders Marine Institute and SeaScape Belgium as the implementation partners in the frame of EDITO project.
Blue-Cloud 2026 at Digital Ocean Forum
Pasquale Pagano, from CNR and one of the Blue-Cloud2026 Project Coordinators, is having an active role on the first day of the conference, during the session "Use Cases Testimonies". Pasquale will be part of the slot "Links with European Infrastructure Ecosystem", dedicated to demonstrate how the Blue-Cloud 2026 is linking with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), through its EOSC Node | Digital Twin of the Ocean: a federated digital environment designed to empower scientists, support the EU Mission "Restore our Ocean and Waters," and provide the research foundation for the European Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO).
Blue-Cloud 2026 will also have an exhibition stand at the conference, to promote the latest results of the project.
On the day before the start of Digital Ocean Forum, Sara Pittonet, from Trust-IT Services and one of the Blue-Cloud2026 Project Coordinators, was invited to the "Marine Research Infrastructures Workshop", taking place on 26th November 2025, organised by DG RTD and DG MARE. This event brings together Marine Research Infrastructures (MRIs) to discuss the European landscape and how to make it more coherent and efficient and to provide it with long-term perspectives, also considering the higher ambition of the Commission MFF proposal on research infrastructures and the Communication on a European strategy on research and technology infrastructures. The aim of this workshop is to create a facilitated discussion on crucial aspects of the organisation of the MRI in Europe, on the optimisation of their dataflows to EMODnet and on the role of the European MRIs in a changing global landscape. The structure of the workshop will favour break-out groups which will allow to multiply and maximise the discussion outcomes.
